Integrative Seminar and Studio (Week 5)

Integrative Seminar – Ms Kanika Sharma

Integrative Studio – Ms Prarthana Patil

In studio class we wrote 10 metaphors based on are attributes and got it approved. Then we were told to paint using black ink for next 10 metaphors. Few of our metaphors got rejected because they were dead metaphors. At first I was very confused for the fact that their were no instructions as such (only use dot and a line) but then later, it helped me to explore because of zero restrictions.

I’ve received my metaphor authorized by ma’am in today’s class. It was brain wrecking for me to think of a metaphor, but I managed to create a few of them by the end of the lecture. After that we were told to use one of our greatest metaphors and use colors, inks or pens in black and white posters to convey the metaphor through lines and dots. This seemed to be more enjoyable because, apart from a pencil, we could lastly use something. and I began with these metaphors ‘ abstractions. This time in the abstractions we had to produce some forms. This class made me know myself better and challenged me to leave my comfort zone as well. Writing has never been my teacup, and writing metaphors has been an enormous challenge for me too. But I think I can manage to do it after this class though it took me a lot of time.

In seminar class we discussed the changes after chapter 1. The whole process of something that has changed, become different, if u have engaged with it then you are at the stage of denial, shocked or don’t won’t to accept it. Ms Kanika expressed her feelings and thoughts based on an incident from her life. First emotion that we go through is “why me?”. After why me phase we tend to let things go. We also addressed in depth the second portion of the book. We talked about all the events that took place in it and how characters altered from part one. We also debated what we all thought to be the book’s theme. It took quite a long time, as we did not all seem to find it out yet. We came up with two primary topics after the debate, Isolation and Alienation. So ma’am told us to read the third portion and attempt to find out what we believe to be the theme.
