We merged two of the earlier learned pinching and coiling methods to create a ship in this class. We produced a jar of our own desired form using the pinching technique, by pushing the clay and pinching, I was able to get the required shape. I started coiling parts of clay after getting the foundation down, using two coils that I twisted to give a braided effect to the bowl’s surface and added a coil to the bowl’s base to finish it. It was really exciting to learn and combine these two methods, and it made me realize the versatility of clay as a material, from creating pots and ships to creating the right sculptures, anything can be done with clay. The class instructed me how to use clay in different creative ways and also how to make it enjoyable.
